Saudade is a Portuguese word defined as a melancholy memory. In this work on canvas, I imagined a forgotten castle or church that had once been a place of vibrant human activity. The interplay of the light of the sky versus the red hues of the walls is, to me, a statement of beauty retained–even in the midst of lost glory.
